These are among the last paints produced using traditional technology, exclusively from natural pigments with the addition of gum arabic and honey. Three-quarters of the paints are made from a single pigment. The paints were produced in St. Petersburg, Russia, at a company operating since 1934. All paints blend seamlessly. Earthy and granulating colors bring a new perspective to the watercolor technique. The pigment particles in the granulating colors clump together as they dry, creating interesting spots and shades, changing the surface texture and creating a "grainy" effect. This makes granulation ideal for painting skies, backgrounds, and other large, wet areas of a painting.
