Barium compounds yield a small number of dyes, of which only heavy spätzle and barite white are characterized by durability.
SpatThe purified and ground mineral is on sale as a white powder. It is used most often as an admixture to lead white (similar specific gravity).
Barite white (barium sulfate obtained artificially).Permanent white, does not change under the influence of light, acids and alkalis. covering power weak. Used mostly in stereochromics. Not used in oil due to poor opacity.
Recognition:Dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid when heated.
Baryta yellowCannot be used in combinations with whites, Neapolitan yellow, ultramarine and cobalt.
It hides poorly in oil. Used in techniques:watercolor,tempera,oil.
It belongs to the group of lemon yellows, such as:
- yellow chrome,
- zinc yellow,
- strontium yellow.
Light changes their color to green.
