Wanting to stop the oil painting from drying on the painting, it can be turned with its face to the wall, or it can be covered on an easel.
Oil dries without light and it is not advisable to deprive a fresh painting of light for a long time.
To stop oil paints from drying, drying retardants can be added during painting.
These agents are certain vegetable, volatile and oily oils, such as rosemary oil, spikenard oil, lavender oil, as well as oil obtained by distillation of capay balsam.
These oils partially volatilize and partially oxidize and are retained in the borderland between French turpentine and oily oils.
They contain oxygen compounds in addition to hydrocarbons.

Rosemary oil

It is obtained from rosemary bushes.
Its better species is the so-called "French oil" - a colorless or faintly colored, greenish liquid with a camphor smell. The boiling point is 150 ÷ 180°C.

Spik oil

Obtained from the stems of lavender (southern France).
Yellow color, camphor odor, boiling point 160 ÷ 250°C.

Lavender oil

It is obtained from the flowers of lavender.
Yellowish or greenish color, pleasant smell.
The components of this oil have the ability to saponify.

Clove oil

It is obtained from the clove tree (Philippines, Madagascar).
Strongly colored, dries slowly, boils at 150 ÷ 260°C.

Capay balsam oil

Obtained after distillation of the better grades of Kapay balsam.
Similar to turpentine (a mixture of hydrocarbons of the order of terpenes.
It boils at high temperatures. At normal it does not volatilize, but absorbs oxygen from the air and forms resin.
Unlike linoxin of oily oils, it dissolves in spirit and is characterized by great brittleness, so it should be used in moderation.
Kapay balsam oil can be used as a final varnish. It delays the drying of paints and has a similar effect to Kapay balsam (softens).
All drying retardants are best introduced into paints rubbed with linseed oil.
They should be used in great moderation, as their excess is harmful to the paint layer.
It is unacceptable to add non-drying vegetable oils to oil paints.
