Rembrandt soft pastels measure up to the very high quality standards expected by artists and amateurs alike. The pastels are made from the purest pigments mixed with the best quality kaolin clay. For many years, Rembrandt soft pastels have been the most popular pastels among artists around the world due to several unique characteristics, such as their excellent level of softness. They are soft to the point that they immediately release large amounts of color, yet do not wipe off quickly. The very intense color and purity ensure that every work has a great look. The Rembrandt pastel range includes 44 pure colors (full colors), 41 intermediate shades going towards black and 118 intermediate shades going towards white.
The color marking system used is very simple to use and it is easy to figure out whether a color is pure or mixed.
Each color has its own number, for example, ochre yellow has the number 227. In the case of pure colors, this number is followed by the number 5 . So, for example, ochre yellow will be marked on the label as 227.5. Darker gradations (mixed colors with black) are marked with the code 227.3. Lighter gradations (mixed colors with white) are marked with higher numbers. In this situation, 227.7; 227.8; 227.9; and 227.10. Some colors also have a gradation of , 12.
