In the early 1980s of the last century, two American artists developed a formula for oil painting in a stick - Oilbar. Their idea was to create a new medium that would combine the properties of oil painting with the speed of oil pastels. Following the success the product had in the US market, Winsor&Newton launched a new line of artistic oil paints in a stick - Artists' Oilbar - in 1992.

Oilbar is, simply put, oil painting in stick form - a stiff stick. The artistic palette of 35 colors was created by combining pigment, linseed oil or safflower oil and specially selected waxes. The Oilbar range also includes a colorless Colourless stick, which contains no pigment and is used to mix paints directly on the ground. The use of the colorless stick makes it possible to obtain many interesting painting effects.
